Vlad is asking for a different squad.
JETS is aimed at 10 to 14-year-olds and will take just a handful of players older or younger than that age group.
Indeed, in some years before Anton was selected, the squad did not take under 10s at all because of the disruption they had regularly caused during the three hour group coaching sessions in early JETS camps. After Anton it was realised that some kids were mature enough to be JETS members and that a strong 8 or 9-year-old should be given a chance. 6 or 7-year-olds have also been accepted but very, very rarely.

A few children older than 14 are valuable as group leaders given their maturity. By the time they are 15 most budding Australian Grandmasters have already been JETS members and don't need to participate in the squad again, so JETS is not expecting the older members of the squad to be superstars.

A few more questions come up in discussions with some prominent coach. Why only 28 kids? Does Australia lack talent in chess? Why not 40-50 kids? Is not it the only elite national program in Australia?

Why only 28 kids? Lack of money is the obvious answer. Providing small group coaching with IM and GM coaches is expensive.
Each State has the possibility to run their own squads, and some do.
