    St.Kilda Chess Club

This Club is now defunct but was brought to my attention when the perpetual trophy was sold just recently. It is rather "beaten" but is nevertheless sterling silver. 40549056.jpg
On the reverse side Club champions are named. The first year engraved is 1959 and the last 1981.Some of the names are Dr.D.C.Rogers (1972),T.Kalisch and A.Pecori (1981).Denis Jessop recalls that he played there in the 1960's.

It still existed in the early 90's and was meeting at St.Kilda Library. David Vanstone was the President and members included myself, J-G. Estiot and some others.

I hope the trophy was rescued! We should have a chess museum.
Zionism is racism as defined by the UN, Israel by every dirty means available steals land and water, kill Palestinian freedom fighters and civilians, and operates an apartheid system to drive more Palestinians off their land

I remember a St Kilda chess club in 1969 or 1970. I played in an informal match (i.e. not Interclub) between Box Hill and
St Kilda with Greg Frean, a fellow junior. There was a huge number of boards, 50+ from memory. I was on about board 40.

I think Tony Wright drew with Bob Seaman on board 1.

I am told Tony won the title in 1966 with a picket fence .
