    Interesting P endgame:

    [Event "George Trundle Masters 2019"]
    [Site "Auckland NZL"]
    [Date "2019.01.09"]
    [Round "7"]

    [Result "1-0"]
    [WhiteElo "2495"]
    [BlackElo "2233"]

Good win by the leader, who increased his lead to a full point, and needs only 0.5/2 for an IM norm:

    [Result "1-0"]

Black was in trouble right after the opening, especially with the unforced error of 14... g6:

Congratulations Brandon on achieving the IM Norm with a round to spare and, with that result, becoming an IM-elect!

    Some R8 games

Well done to Brandon for the IM result, and maybe we will see Dusan draw or win against him in the last round to get his norm too. Meanwhile:

Black was doing OK, but then concentrated too hard on trying to roll White's position on the long diagonal that he forgot his own K- safety, so collapsed quickly.

Here is the historic game where Clarke both keeps his tournament lead and wins his IM title, and I say good on him for a well-timed short draw:

    [Event "George Trundle Masters 2019"]
    [Site "Auckland NZL"]
    [Date "2019.01.10"]
    [Round "8"]
    [White "Clarke, Brandon G I"]
    [Black "Papin, Vasily"]
    [Result "1/2-1/2"]
    [WhiteElo "2400"]
    [BlackElo "2491"]

After a trappy win yesterday against IM Wohl, Stojić wins again to move up to second place, with a good chance for a norm. In this game, he coolly grabs pawns, challenging his opponent to prove he has something before Black's Q-side passers queen.

    [Date "2019.01.10"]
    [Round "8"]
    [White "Hague, Ben"]
    [Black "Stojic, Dusan"]
    [Result "0-1"]

And congrats to Dusan Stojic on the norm. Unsurprisingly Stojic-Clarke was an eight-move draw.

One of the players did not turn up to his last round game I believe and it rarely happens in round robin events of such caliber. Hope he is OK

Yes, he didn't turn up against Papin in R8, but was decent enough to turn up in R9 against Stojić so the latter would not be deprived of norm eligibility. He knows how important that is, having received a norm from the same tournament last year.

Wasn't there some rule about round robins not being eligible for titles unless all games were played? I could be remembering wrong.

The player getting the norm needs to score all their points over the board rather than by forfeit, and the number of games credited for the norm is only the number of games they play over the board. So 6/8 plus a forfeit would have been valid but only an 8-game norm. (In that case a player can claim the title based on 26 rather than 27 games.) 5/8 plus a forfeit is not a norm.

Forfeits in games not involving the norm-seeker are irrelevant. In this case Hague forfeited rounds 7 and 9 but played Stojic in round 8 and Clarke in round 6.

Forfeits affect the rating rules. A round robin with any forfeits is reported for rating as if a Swiss.

Mobile phone defaults once a game has started are treated as normal losses for both norm and rating purposes.
