Does that mean that the Sat Allegro won't be held on Sat, Dec 8th?

Well, this replaces the allegro...similar time control - just a much larger event .

On another note, I wonder if byes in rounds 1 and 7 rather than 1 and 2 are possible....

size matters in this case... () I can't make it early.
then again that's why the gods have introduced the idea of half point byes.
I might disapprove of them in general (particularly those awarding half points for not showing up)
but if need be (and I think need will be) I will take a couple of early ones and maybe forfeit the third round!

For the Sun blitz I can't make it due to the R5 of the Chess Artists tournament.
Second thoughts I might ask Aleksei for a bye that day, we'll see how it goes!

Promises to be a truly fun event. Good luck to the players in the rapid! I won't be able to play for entire weekend due to the sad realization there is life (e.g. work) beyond chess and entire weekend at chess club is a bit too much so will ''sacrifice'' the Rapid but will be there for the blitz!

Tournament starts tomorrow with Rapid @ 10am

A reminder that the tournament starts tomorrow at 10:00 am.

With the hot weather, it will be of great comfort to players that MCC is fully air-conditioned - so you needn't suffer the heat while playing.

Current entries can be found here: https://mcc.enter.services/2018-tour...championships/

At the end of Saturday, six rapid rounds (25+5) completed, anyone interested may view what's happened:

Sunday sees rounds seven, eight and nine of the rapid tournament: round seven starts at 10am.

After lunch, the blitz tournament (also nine rounds) will begin at 3pm. Anyone wishing to enter the blitz tournament who hasn't already done so, entries close at 2:45pm on-site.

Current standings in the rapid tournament overnight after six rounds (and apologies for the image; if there's an easy way to HTML-ify the data I don't know it:

Pairing for round seven will be done immediately before the commencement of play Sunday morning.

Congrats, I have had only one outstanding result in a rapid, was the Filipino "championship" associated with the Grand Fiesta at Bankstown showground about 18 years ago where I managed to work myself up to board one against a few of their top players. It was over a few days and the amazing part was that I was also each night attending a cousin's wedding party that also went on for a couple of days to about 2 in the morning. I went to sleep at the wheel and woke up driving with two wheels on the median strip on Parramatta Road. I even out performed Lloyd Fell who was also in attendance in spite of his sometimes controversial view of some people. The Hume Highway at Bankstown will eventually get you to Melbourne chess club.
