Most Brilliant MCC Game of 2017

    Hi everyone

The Melbourne Chess Club (MCC) has been in the process of selecting the most brilliant game played at MCC during 2017.

The game so selected will be awarded the annual Greg Hjorth Brilliancy Prize and a $300 MCC bookshop voucher.

The candidate games are as follows:

-Australia Day Weekender - T. Narenthram (vs D. Gusain)
-MCC Club Championship - T. Ly (vs H. Gao)
-ANZAC Day Weekender - S. Urban (vs M. Raine)
-Malcolm Pyke Memorial - T. Narenthram (vs E. Hooi)
-Malitis Memorial - B. Yu (vs D. Lacey)
-MCC Open - D. Gusain (vs T. Ly)
-Hjorth Open - G. Canfell (vs. S.C. Goh)

(*Bob Brooking Round Robins - No brilliancy game submitted)

These games can be found at the following Microbase link:

    https://chessmicrobase.com/microbase...token=lv7whpzd

For the first time in 2017, a panel of judges was formed to make the selection (previously, a single judge had chosen the winner). The panel this year include:

    - FM Jack Puccini;
    - FM Michael Baron; and
    - WGM Julia Ryjanova.

Each judge was asked to rank each of the 7 games in order of most brilliant to least.

The most brilliant game selected by the judge was allocated 7 points, the 2nd most brilliant game was allocated 6 points, the 3rd most brilliant game was allocated 5 points and so on. Each judge was free to apply whatever criteria they felt were appropriate when considering the "brilliance" of each game.

Once the judges forwarded their rankings to the MCC Committee, the scores were tallied up to determine the winning game.

The winning game will be announced before the start of the MCC Blitz Championship this Sunday 18 February 2018 (starts 6:00pm). After the announcement, each judge's rankings and the final scores will be disclosed in this Chesschat thread.

We now invite the public to make their choice of what was the most brilliant MCC game of 2017. Was it one of the 7 games listed or another game that didn't make the candidate list?

MODS - Please insert a poll for Chesschat users to select what they consider the most brilliant MCC game of 2017 (include an option for "Others" - i.e. a game other than the listed candidate games).

I think the problem had something to do with "Opening" header.

I've edited this header and the game does appear to play through now.
