    Quick play ratings

What time limits can be used for events eligible for quick play ratings?

Also what do the columns in the quick ratings mean?
Only the rating is obvious to me.

I would like to see a quick rating list in rating order as well as alphabetical.

Lists of top players, juniors, most active etc would be a nice touch.

My quick rating is 100 more than the standard one, so it would be fun to see where i rank etc.

Your rating, the number of games you played in the current period, your ranking in Australia, your ranking in your state. I hope it answers some of your questions.

Are the ACF quick ratings considered to have any merit? seem to be quite generous from what i've seen

I think that depends on where you live. Rincewind gave an analysis here which showed that players from some states tend to have lower Quick ratings than their Normal ratings. For other states it is the opposite.

Personally, I am 2131!! on the current ACF Normal list and 1499(??) on the current Quick list. But this difference should not be viewed as a result of any general bias in the Quick ratings -- rather, it is because I haven't played in any Quick-rated tournaments for decades (for some reason my state does not Quick-rate any tournaments). To my knowledge, the last one I played in was when I was a junior -- an Australian Blitz Championship or similar, around 17 or 18 years ago.

My understanding is that generally games with a time control between 5 and 59 minutes per player are rated on the ACF Quick list, as per Bill's previous explanation:
A game will be rated in the Quick list if it is played at a time control of between 5 and 59 minutes per player for the whole game or if using increments they are of the form G/Xmins + Y secs per move where X is 3 to 29 and Y is not less than 2 or greater than 30, or where X is 30 to 59 and Y is less than 30.
Note that the last clause means that there are exceptions to the 5-59 minute guideline, as a time control of 59' + 29"/move would still be rated on the Quick list since for based time X of 30-59 minutes, the increment Y has to 30 seconds or greater to be rated on the Classic list. However, this is largely academic since such time controls are rarely used.

Thanks Nick, those lists were interesting.

Including 3+2 or 5 minute events could make quick ratings quite volatile. Playing with a new time limit for the first time can also increase the volatility.

Blitz games have been included for a while now. The main cause of volatility is that many players have few games in the quick rating system. Also there is a lot of variation in quick vs normal rating differences between states. This is particularly associated with the extent to which states mix adults and juniors in quick tournaments.
