    Smith, Robert W–Johansen, Darryl K

White was never in this short game after going wrong in the opening. 5.Nbd2—Even against the Slav, this move can be met well by ...c6-c5, even though it costs a tempo. Then he lost castling, so his IQP was goiung to be more of a weakness than a strength.

White did not need to move the king. There was nothing wrong with 9.Bd2.

Losing castling was probably the losing move.

I guess one of the explanations is that Darryl's opponent belongs to the generation that he has been dominating for 35 years.

I've uploaded my Photos from Day 2. Just the ones taken from my phone. I took a bunch with Helen's camera and I'll upload those when I get them off her (although a bunch are probably bad due to the florescent lights and I didn't know how to compensate for that).

Much obliged. Well done in getting Chess24 to post the games.

Thanks to whoever got this on Chess24. Great to be able to follow live from overseas.

Does anyone know what score is needed for an IM norm?

7/9, so only the current tournament leader on 4.5/6, FM Ben Hague, can attain an IM Norm from this tournament. He has yet to play Johansen, PK and Ang (haven't looked up the order).
Do you find it hard to get better at chess? Unsure which resources to use?

As a Grandmaster, FIDE Trainer, 2018 Australian Champion, 2017 Australian Open Champion and published author, I know how to succeed in chess. I've used my training methods to help hundreds of players achieve their chess goals and sustain a large improvement in their skill and results.

Reilly – v. Riemsdijk is shown as a draw agreed with White in a winning position after 34. Bf2. However, Stephen Lukey informed us that White actually played 34. Qxf6 allowing the forced perpetual with 34... Qf3+ (35.Rg3 Qf1+, 36. Rg1 Qf3+). The winning move was demonstrated and somehow transmitted life. Van Riemsdijk's 31... Rxe3 was probably a miscalculation, overlooking that 33.Qh6 attacked the B on f6 and tied it to the N on g7.
