Is there any Hobart club member plans to come this event? I am planning to come and it will be great if there are some friends to travel together. As it will be a long driving trip from Hobart to Burnie (Around 4hours from Google map) . Also, Please give us some suggestions about the accommodation there?

I think Ian Little said he's going up. I am unlikely to at this stage.

Also, Please give us some suggestions about the accommodation there?
In the past some of us have sometimes shared an Air BnB house so Ian might be interested in that.

It should be mentioned that the location of Havenview Primary is roughly in the middle of nowhere (which is an occasional topic of discussion , but that's another issue). This has implications for travel and accommodation, which Hobart members with prior experience will be able to tell you more about. (Yes, 4 hours travel is a good estimate.)

I'm hopeful of playing at this stage and would be happy to be part of an airb'nb plan if it can be arranged. Hopefully, Thanh can check with Ian Little. I'll be seeing Aidan Cox at the chesskids school finals next Monday, so will see if he and other Launceston players can make it as well. I haven't seen Dave Rolph over the board for a while now. Does anyone know if he still travels for chess?

I've now entered and Kerry Beeton told me today he'll be entering tonight. Unfortunately, Ian Little is unable to make it up for this one and Kevin has also advised that other duties mean he can't make it.

I am sorry as I can not come the tournament as planning. There will be 3 more assignments that are due in the next week and I can not manage my time for travelling to Burnie. Hope to see all in the next event.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Launceston Cup Rapid tournament on 18 + 19 November, Thanh. Details are on the TCA website!

I am advised that entries for the Burnie Shines have been quite slow, and those currently received are all local (or all but one if you categorise Devenport as exotic). After discussions at the club tonight it was resolved that a decision will be made at 8pm (local time) on Thursday 12 October as to whether it is feasible to go ahead. If you are planning to enter and have not yet done so can you please advise, or submit an entry via the website (see post #1), before that time.

I did receive formal notice today via the TCA site that Kerry Beeton (Launceston) has entered - but i was in Launceston today and it's beyond exotic!
I'll wait for the decision - and am also happy to participate if the format needs to be changed (i.e. a single day rapid round-robin,etc.).

Thanks Denis. I don't seem to be on the mailing list for entries but I'm expecting to hear about 8:30 to 9 what the state of play is and will post here.

Change of format could be an option but I suspect it won't be feasible to half-cancel the venue at this stage, also some people weren't keen on having it at all if it's mainly local so I suspect it will just be on or off.

As foreshadowed above, the Burnie Shines unfortunately has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
