Thank you again, Bill. I will make sure everyone involved gets these details, and thank you for examining the file. We novice users of Vega have some more familiarisation to do.

The five letter requirement for FIDE's simple search is an explanation for why it didn't find the player I used the advanced search for. I had wondered; it would be nice if FIDE documented that limitation right there on the input form, and whether only last names are searched or all names. I suppose I can test that too, but what the site does now doesn't have to be what it does after someone updates the software behind it. Small issue.

I will send you the name of the player privately if you don't mind; it's not particularly secret but is a junior, so I'd prefer to err on the side of discretion. The last name does not meet the five character requirement as you no doubt suspect. Which still leaves the update of the rating as a problem, and I will investigate if you don't beat me to that too!

Still waiting on testing. :-( My Windows notebook lunched itself, and I'm working to get everything activated again after a reinstall. Been chatting on and off (mostly off) with MS Support for over an hour now.

Hoping someone can help me with my problem trying to register 8.0.5.

I downloaded the programme from the Vega site and attempted to enter registration details, but am unable to enter any data in the Register window. When closing the programme i receive this message: Error saving configuration file!

What am i doing wrong? I had no issues with Vega 7. Thanks.

I have managed to download it successfully, after disabling antivirus and updating Java and various other adventures. Have run a test tournament. I get the "error saving configuration file" message on exiting but it didn't prevent me reloading and continuing the test.

Might be a need to remind DOPs to place the serial txt registration document in the new programme directory (which i initially forgot to do, of course). I am still getting an error message when i exit the programme - error saving configuration file. Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

That works because the Swiss Perfect import Masterfile has the same structure as a SP tournament file, so you can use the tournament file as an import file. Vega tournament files are completely different from the Vega import Masterfile, so I'm fairly certain it wouldn't be possible directly. However, it would be possible to export a list of players from one event in Vega, and then import them into another event. Sections 2.11.2 and 2.11.3 in the manual describe this. It looks complicated, but I suspect that if you export the list in Vega format, it will be straightforward to import them again.

If you make a new Vega event out of one you already have, you are given the option to keep the players that were in the old one. Useful for club events! I did find that byes were carried over - but that was in an older version of Vega and may have been fixed.

Ohh, thank you. Very useful. I am sure this information will be of great use to all tournament organisers. Should be marked as important! Some might have already known of this already.

Why this is useful and a time saver is that whilst it is rather easy to add players with current rating/id, if you have players continuing on from one tournament to the next without a rating, you have to add their information again from scratch. A pain to do when they arrive 5 mins before start time on club nights.

And yes, in the current version, byes/withdrawals etc are not carried over.

I used to be able to copy from the crosstable window and paste the crosstable onto Chesschat, pappubahry's site etc. I can no longer do this, nothing pastes. How do I now get a text crosstable?

I used to be able to copy the pairs text files to show the pairings for the round completed and the next round. I have entered results for round 8 for a tournament in progress and done the draw for round 9 and now want to copy and paste the draw for round 9. However the old pairs files have not updated so presumably this system no longer exists. How do I now get a text copy of the pairings?

As discussed this appears to be caused by Comodo antivirus/firewall software forcing the Vega application to run in "containment mode" or “sandboxed”. As such it won't allow Vega to interact with any other files/folders on your computer.
