As a completely different sort of test I have let various programs test some really complex middle game positions with infinite analysis, 10 alternative moves and twenty four hours to analyze the position.

    I rank programs

    1. stockfish 7

    2. Houdini

    3. Stockfish 6

Stock fish 7 analyzes faster reaching great depths quicker. Given time all three programs tend to rank candidate moves in the same order but their numeric values differ. However I find it difficult to accept rankings that differ by .02 of a pawn after 32 half moves of analysis.

This especially applies to stodgy positions.

That is an interesting computer mistake. To see that 8.Nxf7 is a blunder, an engine must see to the recovery of material that can first occur 12 moves later.

Sure, but whether they process a line that deeply in time is the question. Presumably the problem is with the line being prematurely cut out of consideration as not worth examining more deeply. In the time control, I assume the 1800 is seconds, ie 40 moves in 30 minutes. Is there a record of how long it spent on this move?

Both Engines were using the same time controls! for the whole game and many others in a Match link below...
