Yes the clothes drop is still recommended, could be snowing in a couple of days, you just never know

Clothes drop safely executed, so Shannon now has coat, boots and sundry other bits. Thanks to the Chess Nut and friends.

I have to say that Mt buller is absolutely beautiful!!!!
Hills were a bit tough for a very big unit like me..... but the view is definitely worth walking around the mountain.....

Murray Chandler was even interviewed by a broadsheet and he promoted it. All people should start saving money now and come to Queenstown NZ for 2006.

Walk review:

The Village Circuit (EASY 3.12 km/1.5 hrs) and The Canyon (ADVANCED 300m/30mins) - This easy walk, over gently undulating terrain is a great way to orientate yourself with the Mt Buller Village. Offering fantastic views of Mt Stirling and the ranges to the south and east, the Village Circuit allows you to walk amidst grevilleas and snow gums. Incorporates a series of exercise stations for the fitness fanatics!

Pleasant stroll and generally very easy. Some of the bush is not too disturbed.

Along the Village Circuit you will find the short, but challenging Canyon walk. Perfect for those with a sense of adventure, the Canyon offers grand views and has its own private water stream.

Very short and not at all challenging - just steepish in places. So long as you can cope with a bit of slope don't let this guff about "challenge" put you off.

The Summit Nature Walk (EASY to INTERMEDIATE 3.6km return/1.5-2hrs) A chance to enjoy the views and enjoy the flora and fauna of the high country.

Highly recommend, especially the south side which goes around the basalt columns.

The Klingsporn Bridle Track (INTERMEDIATE 8.65km/3hrs one-way, down so you might want to be collected at the bottom!)

Only did the bottom 1 km or so while down at Mirimbah.

Mt Stirling via Corn Hill and Howqua Gap (INTERMEDIATE 16.4 kms via Corn Hill or 20.4 kms via the Quarry/5-7hrs return) Venture beyond the resort boundaries to Corn Hill and Mt Stirling, walking along a combination of 4WD tracks and walking trails. One of the longer trails around Mt Buller, this walk has a number of picnic locations along the way, a majestic Alpine Ash forest
to be explored and fantastic views back to the picturesque Mt Buller Resort.

For a fast walker, 4-5 hrs would be more reasonable. Not especially difficult but road is very steep in places so need sure footing especially coming down off Mt S. Very pretty walk on the whole but getting off the road for 4WDers between Howqua Gap and Mt S is annoying, I had to make way for about 25 of them ... then again it was New Year's Day. It's best to go via Corn Hill, nicer bush and less 4WDs, the long road's a fairly pointless drag by comparison.

Does anybody know who owns that car near the tennis courts at Bourke Street? As it doesn't seem to go anywhere, seems quite study and obviously durable, I might buy it to rent out as a lodge during winter - or rent to some destitute chess tragic who wants to go on a pilgramage to Mount Buller.
