    Lightbulb "Pawn Sacrifice" movie

This might be worth its own thread:
Tobey Maguire has yet to be nominated for an Oscar, but if the trailer for Pawn Sacrifice is any indication, he’s gunning for that honor this awards season. The actor, whose best-known roles often encompass an air of innocence and wonder, takes on the complicated life of Bobby Fischer, famous World Chess Champion and troubled public figure, under the direction of Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond).

Thanks Patrick, "Pawn Sacrifice" opens on September 16th in Europe. Not so sure about the opening date(s) in the US.

Movie Review: "Pawn Sacrifice" (Bobby Fischer)

    The Age of Bobby Fischer

The brilliant new Hollywood movie “Pawn Sacrifice” portrays the life of tormented chess genius Robert James “Bobby” Fischer from his early days as a prodigy to his historic 1972 match, at age 29, with Russian world champion Boris Spassky. Actor Toby Maguire portrays Fischer with remarkable authenticity – indeed, pitch-perfect for those of us who met Fischer in his prime.

The film depicts a match that became a signature event in the Cold War between Russia and the United States. It also makes one wonder whether a creative genius like Fischer, deeply troubled yet supremely functional at the chessboard, would be able to exist in today’s unforgiving online world....

Reviews have been generally good but there are some negative ones floating around. At the moment I can't find any evidence that the film will be shown in Tasmania.

Now two GMs have reviewed it favorably (Rogers and Rogoff), and the previews look good.
