Did you notice the link to the second part of the interview? The story about Beliavsky is above the photograph with the banner "МОЛОДЕЦ ТОЛЯ!".
Very interesting interview. Many thanks Elliott!

No, I did not, thanks. Have remedied now. So Belyavsky a "traitor"?

Well, I don't know very much Russian, so Google Translate is my best option. I know enough Russian to be able to search for Belyavsky's name in the original, and enough to realize that sometimes the English word "Saviour" in the translation is actually "Spassky", since the name in Russian really is derived from its word word for Saviour. Other times they render the Russian masculine genitive as a female nominative.

The FIDE Executive Board has requested Kirsan to not run for President again.

    The vote was 37-20.

I assume this is only intended to be effective until the next elections are held.

Any idea on who might replace Kirsan?

Zurab is a capable fellow: if Makropoulos is elected he will continue to give Zurab as many responsibilities as possible.

I would like to see some kind of reconciliation between the Makropoulos team and Silvio Danailov.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gary Kasparov's name is referred to as one of the "interested parties"!

Given the fact that Zurab has been known to buy rating points, take moves back, verbally abuse and intimidate fellow chess people...I doubt how capable he is. Think about the recent ''shorts'' scandal''.

I doubt Russia will allow Kasaprov to get elected...nor will the current Fide Establishment.

Not sure what all this is about:

FIDE Deputy Mr. Makropoulos deplored the fact that the Presidential Board and Executive team of FIDE had been defamed, threatened and insulted by an election campaign that Mr. Ilyumzhinov had initiated. Mr. Makropoulos mentioned that Mr. Ilyumzhinov is abusing the name of Russia and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, in order to hide himself and excuse his team’s insults and threats to FIDE officers. Mr Makropoulos said that Mr Ilyumzhinov should stop doing this.

The vote on asking Kirsan not to run again was by secret ballot.

Will we get Ilyumzhinov vs Makropoulos for President?

Is it to much to hope that a "third" candidate based on western norms could turn up in the battle between Kirsan and Makropoulos? I would be pleased to see an Australian candidate.

How much is the salary for the Fide President?

I do not think there is a realistic chance of Any Australian running for it...but ...how about a candidate with a Danish link? Chmilite for instance?
