I did read it, and considered it not relevant, comrade AC.

You mean apart from being able to access built-in opening books and endgame table bases?

But that would have been perfectly legal since I presume this is the way computers operate.

I was thinking more of situations like programs having certain opening novelties encrypted and supported
    by passwords etc.

Would successful / unsuccessful endeavors from other programs to hack into this kind of
information be considered as cheating and if yes what would have been the retributions.

BTW has FIDE any by laws / rules / regulations regarding computer involvement in the game?

    Yes

However it's about as useful as athletics having rules about motorbikes. Chess is a contest between humans; competitions against or between computers are for research, preparation or exhibition purposes and you can make up your own rules.

Zionism is racism as defined by the UN, Israel by every dirty means available steals land and water, kill Palestinian freedom fighters and civilians, and operates an apartheid system to drive more Palestinians off their land

Another one - this time an amateur at the Dutch Open - where the threat of a metal detector scan was enough for the culprit to reveal the smartphone hidden in his pants. (The threat being greater than the execution).

I wonder if the scan would have revealed anything else!

    Awww.. c'mon!!!

A picture of an old man sitting on the dunny gets you fellas all excited and carrying on like pork-chops!

Yet a story of a younger man with a phone hidden in his pants doesn't inspire so much as a raised eyebrow among the lot of you!?

There is gold in here if you dig deep enough!

For those too lazy to read the sauce ... err source material, here's some snippets to get your juices flowing:

"The arbiters kept track of the player's activity during games, and noticed he was visiting the toilet a lot—up to 15 times per game, and one time staying away for 12 minutes.
Jansen: "There were three ways to reach the toilets, and he was using all three, which seemed somewhat strange."

"This behavior started in round three, and after round four chief arbiter Koos Stolk decided to talk to the player. He asked him to empty his pockets. Nothing was found.
"I didn't have a good feeling about this, so I decided to order a metal detector online," said Jansen. "The FIDE Fair Play Commission recommends using such a device."

With some delay, the detector arrived before the penultimate round. There was still time to use it.

About an hour into the eighth round, Stolk took the scanner and asked the player to join him, and undergo the scan. He refused, when Stolk told him: "That comes down to being tested positive."

The threat was stronger than the execution. Before the scanner was actually used on him, the player showed a smartphone that was hidden in a pocket that he was wearing inside his pants. That's why emptying his pockets after round four hadn't brought it up."

So, what's inside your pockets when you play chess?

Rausis, who says he has quit chess anyway, has been stripped of the GM title (he remains an IM) and banned for six years.

In Section B (1401-1700) of the recent European Online Chess Championship, 5 out of the top 6 players have been banned for cheating. This scourge will not stop until people are criminally prosecuted for fraud.
