    More shameless queen saccing...

Played this one last night on ICC - a pleasant finish.

White: Sheroff (Kevin Casey) Black: Tamara

    5.Nf3 Be6
    6.Nbd2 Nh6
    7.c4 Be7
    8.Bd3 0-0

    10.Rd1 Nc7

    17.bxc4 g6
    18.Ng3 Rb8
    19.Bc3 Ne8
    20.0-0 Ng7
    21.Kh2 Kh8
    22.Rg1 Qc8
    23.Nd2 Nh6
24.Nh1 f5? [Opening up the g-file is not a good plan.]
    25.gxf5 gxf5
    26.Rxg7! Kxg7
    27.Rg1+ Kh8
    28.Qh5 Rf6
29.f4! Be8 [Attacking the queen. Tactically, this can be ignored.]
    30.fxe5!! Bxh5 [After ...dxe5, I can just play 31.Qg5 or something similar.]
31.exf6 Bg6 [There was no defense. If ...Ng4+ instead, 32. Rxg4! works just fine.]
    32.f7+ 1-0 [It's mate next move.]

    Cheers,
    Kevin Casey

There is a defence of sorts - 31...Nf7 32.fxe7+ Ne5 though white has so much attack for so little net material investment that black is still losing.

Queen side knight is a pain in the neck in this sort of structure. Nice attack!

I don't normally get the chance to queen sac so I'll post this.

3 minute blitz game against opponent slightly lower rated.

    Makes lunch time worthwhile.

Hopefully I can be a provisional member of this club

    Thumbs up

Interesting. Your opponent played an unsound gambit, but you were the one who developed the raging attack. Nonchalantly leaving the Q to be taken would have shocked him.

They're always entertaining, but Kev's opponent did seem to give it away a bit.

Is a Queen sacrifice strictly the same as a sac ?

Max had a great win in the NSW Open

"sac" is just short for "sacrifice"; I'm not sure there's meant to be any difference in meaning.

On another thread some time ago we discussed the difference between a genuine sacrifice and a combo. If you temporarily give up the queen as part of a combination that nets you the other side's queen by force a few moves later (or some other big pile of material), it's not really a sac, but rather a combo. But queen sac for forced mate wasn't discusssed in that context and I guess it is a sacrifice in the sense you never get the queen back!

Max's one is quite rare - a sacrifice in the purest sense for long-term and unclearly defined compensation, albeit he gets quite a bit of material for it.
