Interesting to see computer assessments. For a long time White appeared to be having clear pressure/advantage ...but according to engine all equal...from the human perspective - white was better!

Yes, white appeared to be having a clear plan with f4 etc. While black had to wait patiently...- I would surely prefer to be white out of the opening

Why not white move 19 rook captures bishop e7 winning 2 minors for rook?
Zionism is racism as defined by the UN, Israel by every dirty means available steals land and water, kill Palestinian freedom fighters and civilians, and operates an apartheid system to drive more Palestinians off their land

Did you notice what happened instead? Yes! Two minor prices for a rook!
    Still searching for Bobby Fischer....

Why not white move 19 rook captures bishop e7 winning 2 minors for rook?
Taking on e7 was the best option but it was expected that Anton knows what to do after Re7 (how to make a draw) so white was hoping to confuse the opponent.

White was hoping not only get two pieces for a rook but also do that in the most convenient way. Re5 attacks bishop, so what to do? The immediate reaction is Bd6 which is no good because of Rd6 and Re7 and there is no Re8 because of Bf6.

Bd4 was a very strong reply and after exchanges and Bg2 black is slightly better. Unfortunately that small edge was not enough for Anton to convert to a whole point. In fact a few moves later Anton gave up all the advantage and was trying hard to draw.

    Some great chess today
Ikeda's win was very nice. Anton got out alive/played solidly.
I think - Max pushed hard and was probably worse/losing when he missed a simple tactic.

A strange thing happened on the way to the Masters yesterday.

A BMW wrapped itself around a traffic lights pole, bringing it down.
It happened to be right in front of David Cordovers new chess place on the corner of
corner of Waverley and Huntingdale road.

Norm check: Anton needs 3.5/5 for GM norm from here, Bobby needs 4/5, Junta and Luke need 4.5/5, rest can't do it.
IM norm: Luke needs 3/5, Karl needs 3.5/5.

By the way the ACF did eventually decide (just before it started) to offer a degree of sponsorship to this year's tournament.

    Sounds like a good move!
Is the amount any close to what the CV delegation applied for in Sydney early in the year?
Are there any realistic hopes that ACF would continue to provide partial sponsorship in the years to come if the tournament becomes a permanent CV feature?
