Indeed, you will never have a useful debate about the meaning of anything unless the terms of what you are talking about are clear. You are entitled to the view that you speak factually only, and are zealous to squash falsehoods only.

But when all is said and done, I wish the day is not far off when Australia can claim its own undisputed GM who was anywhere half as brilliant as Browne was and from as young as he was. That day alas has not yet come.
Given that Browne was around number 12-14 in the world at his best...this day is far off

Frank of course left 1970 Walter Browne off this list as, for reasons which I fail to comprehend, he thinks that Browne wasnít Australiaís first GM. Itís a bit like some people maintaining Obama wasnít born in the USA despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Yes, Walter Browne was Australia’s first GM, but not for very long. He is regarded as belonging to the pantheon of American rather than Australian masters.

It’s more like Sergey Karjakin who was born in the Ukraine but steadfastly identifies as Russian and repudiates Ukrainian political aspirations in the armed conflicts of recent years.

Whether Australian or not, it’s a matter of the prevailing language conventions, not a matter of factual discovery.

The mantra of the American birthers about Obama is a different matter altogether. At its heart is either the deception of political manipulation on the one hand, or the self-deception of the conspiracy theorist on the other.

Jammo’s repeated objection over the years and in different forums is not explained by a failure of comprehension but by an insistent demand that language be used in the way he alone ordains.

Haha speaking to each other using third singular won't save you getting off topic!

I can see the thread split threat hovering over this.

This thread has said some of the same things, over 15 years, about 15 times! For me, WSB was a great GM, at one time an Australian GM , later an American one and sadly now passed away. Exactly when he was an Australian GM is now largely irrelevant. RIP WSB.
