Oceania Nations to be admitted to Asian Games from 2017

17th Asian Games was held in September in Incheon. Indonesia will host 2018 Asian Games.

Oceania Nations, including Australia, will be able to compete in the Asian Indoor Games in Turkmenistan in 2017, with a view to subsequent entry into the Asian Winter Games.

Australia is a major world force in swimming and other sports (not chess) where China currently dominates.

So does that mean more direct title opportunities up for grabs since asian games would come under "continental individual" or "sub continental individual" in terms of terms of awarding titles?

A rather unique opportunity to visit Turkmenistan - a country that is otherwise almost closed for foreigners.

No. Asian Games is not a FIDE championship and so a special application would need to be made to FIDE to count it as a direct-title event.

I would be very cautious before deciding to visit Turkmenistan - one of the ex Soviet republics I always wanted to visit.

From reports published in the Chronicles of Turkmenistan the country while celebrating the 25th anniversary of her independence
the cost of living has risen sky high, there are food shortages and hepatitis A sufferers' number skyrockets.
