Just been browsing the excellent records at www.olimpbase.org, and looking at some of Australia's past performances in the Men's Chess Olympiads.

Some of the notable individual performances:

Terrey Shaw: silver medals (board 6) 1968 (12/14), 1972 (11/15).
Walter Browne: bronze medal (board 1) 1972 (17.5/22!).
Michael Woodhams: silver medal (board 4) 1974 (15.5/18)
Robert Jameison: bronze medal (board 2) 1982 (8.5/11), Rp 2661!
Ian Rogers: 7/9 (board 2, bd1 was Johansen) 1984, Rp 2668; 8.5/12 (bd1) 1990, Rp 2650.
Darryl Johansen 8.5/12 1990 (1990 was the Ian and Darryl show).

Special mentions for Zhao's 2545 performance this year, Darryl's 7.5/11 in 2000, Solo's 6/11 on Board 1 in 1998, Guy West 7/9 in 1986.

Best overall results:
15'th (of 60 teams) in 1970 (on the back of another heroic Walter Browne effort), 17th (of 48) in 1976, 22nd (of 91) in 1982, 22nd (of 88) in 1984, 28th (of 114) in 1996. I reckon 35'th this year and 36'th in 2000 are also worthy of mention, coming after the dissolution of the Soviet Union into too many good chess teams.
