Good point, even if its not connected to anything - opponents may worry. I guess these days, cases of actual cheating are for more rare than cases where players worry about opponent cheating.

I'm more worried about his famous 4 banana attack.

Just looked again - aren't those things ear plugs? I'm assuming things like iPods are illegal these days, though no idea what is or isn't banned.

They're ear plugs that aren't connected to anything, the cord is on full display 24/7, I'm not sure if they're noise cancelling or some kind of psychological thing, I know another junior from Canberra wears proper headphones that are noise cancelling, and again the cord is on full display to prove it's not connected to anything.

Mebbe I should try those myself - could be useful against those juniors whose advanced 'tactics' include making irritating noises when they're
in trouble and it's my turn to move...

December issue out now. For the second year in a row I greatly enjoyed Ian Rogers' recap of the most remarkable positions of the year.

And I greatly enjoyed his articles on the World Championship title match and organization. Over and above chess, he is an extraordinary writer of insight.

February issue is excellent. Rogers with in-depth coverage of games from the Open and Zonal, Jamieson on the development of Australian chess over the last 50 years, Illingworth on theoretical battles in the Benko at the Open and Wallis on KBP vs KB endgames are some of the highlights.

Luckily no one knows I am studying David Koetsier's instructional article in the previous issue on gambits to spring on my hapless opponents in Division D (F?) of the coming club championships
