    2014 MCC Hjorth Open (was Cup Weekender, Oct 31st - Nov 4th)

    2014 MCC Hjorth Open

    The 2014 MCC Cup Weekender has been renamed the 2014 MCC Hjorth Open in honor and memory of Greg Hjorth (1963 - 2011).

    When: Friday 31st Oct - Tues 4th Nov

    Where: Melbourne Chess Club. 66 Leicester St. Fitzroy, 3065.

    Format: 9 round Swiss

    Time Control: 90 minutes per game + 30 seconds per move. Forfeit time is 30 minutes after game begins.

    Entry Fee: Adult Member: $85, Concession / Junior Member: $75 (add $10 for non-members) GMs and IMs are free and club member FMs are free.

    Grand Prix: The event will be the 7th event in the 2014 MCC grand prix. View current leaders here.

    $4500 Prizes:

    1st: $1500
    2nd: $800
    3rd: $400

    U/2200: $300
    U/2000: $300
    U/1800: $300
    U/1600: $300
    U/1400: $300
    U/1200: $300


    Byes: Players may take 2 half point byes in rounds 1-7. Please note this means if you have to work or go to school on the Monday then you can still play without being too adversely affected.

    Rating: The event will be FIDE and ACF rated.

    Out of the IMs who entered already, only Ari is Victorian, so other Victorians will enter. Very sure that Kannan and James will play (even if James enters 5 mins before the start of the first round). Then there are Rujevic and Goldberg, possibly Cheng or/and Sandler. Solo is not victorian but has family here. Could also be someone like Andrew Brown (who travels frequently for chess) entering. Therefore, 10 is quite a realistic figure.

    I think the player limit is about 90. We will finalise this figure soon. MCC have never had a tournament in the their current premise which was too big to fit everybody, but if the tournament grows by the same amount as it did last year then we will have to close entries.

    So you don't risk missing out you should just enter early.
