This case (which is saturating my Google News "chess" feed) is becoming even more bizarre:

That'll teach him for adjusting the pieces while it's the the other guy's move.
So what's your excuse? To run like the devil's chasing you.

See you in another life, brotha.

Just because I took the pawn he was about to promote.............

An elderly man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly chased his former chess opponent through a busy shopping centre and held a hunting knife to his throat in a suburb of Wollongong.

Funny, years ago when I proposed giant chess for parks here in Byron the Council came up with all sorts of objections like insurance etc (they are now in favour btw). So I rang up the insurance company and quized them and they told me that chess is considered very low risk in their eyes and that I don't need insurance. Hope things don't change

It is a sad story. More detail in another thread started by Ian Rout yesterday.

This story should be used as a reminder for those who do not play touch-move

It's just coincidence that I started both, I don't go looking for them, honest. (In fact my mother sent me the link to the latest case.)

Perhaps they should be merged as a general chess violence thread as more will probably pop up occasionally.
