TCEC is a competition of some kind:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorese...es_Competition

(Said page also explains what TCEC win rule and draw rule are. Draw rule sounds a bit fishy to me but obviously the competitors are agreeable to it or they wouldn't be competing.)

The official score for Komodo 8 was as listed on the official cross table the -2 is a furphy with regards the competition since the disconnect would have been the fault of the Naum and Critter operators respectively. However if you want to look at demonstrations of playing ability then you could discount the Naum game entirely as it was only 3 moves long. The Critter game was long enough to be adjudicated as a draw.

Yes! "- anybody can run two computer chess programs against each other"

And that is How TCEC is getting found out to be a SCAM! Because the Independent Results being put forward by other People Playing Chess Computer Competitions show The FREE! Stockfish 5 is Better than the Paid 80 Euro ? Komodo 8 like shown below...

    http://immortalchess.net/forum/showt...32842&langid=1

    SYSTEM~i3 380M | 2 @ 2.53 | Win7 x64 | 6 GB Ram
    TEST SUITE~5000 4 move.epd (opening suite reversing)
    GUI~Little Blitzer 2.75
    TB'S~No | PONDER~Off
    HASH~512 MB
    HT~On | CORE's~2
    TIME~5 min + 3 sec (IPON/CEGT Time controls)

Sorry, but Komodo 8 is beaten here again by SF5 original even at longer time controls.
It appears in my testing that it may be #3 engine behind SF5 and H4...certainly not #1

This result is with a 95% confidence interval, it is outside the error bars 40 Elo vs 38 Error bars

    Code:
Program Elo + - Games Score Av.Op. Draws

    1 Stockfish 5 : 3220 38 38 150 55.7 % 3180 54.0 %
    2 Komodo 8 : 3180 38 38 150 44.3 % 3220 54.0 %

The TCEC (Thoresen Chess Engines Competition ?) Results are Definitely Wrong!
Below are (5) Links Showing Stockfish 5 as being The No.1 Chess Program/Engine! Stronger than Komodo 8
    http://spcc.beepworld.de/endless-roundrobin.htm
    http://www.chess2u.com/t9255-komodo-...bit-8cpu-match
    http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/404/
    http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/404FRC/
    http://www.chess2u.com/t6886p45-engi...ing-list#62788

The Stockfish 5 Version used in the later TCEC Stages was Not! The Best Optimum Version! As a Version used at the Start ? Where as the Komodo 8 TCEC Version was a Tweaked Version just for TCEC and Not! The Commercial ChessBase Version ? (This does Not! Mean the TCEC Version is Better...it was just made to fit in ? and do the Job! ) Stockfish 5 was leading the Early Stages including the Games played against Komodo 8 by 2.5 + Points! And then later it's Playing Strength Rapidly Deteriorated when TCEC uploaded some other Versions of Stockfish 5 ? Resulting in Stockfish 5 having a long Term -2 Points ??
Stockfish 5 Official Versions! Are improving every other week with improvements to the Engine by a Large dedicated Team! The Source Code is Open which shows the Amazing Work they are doing...
Stockfish 5 was the First Chess Program/Engine to Reach (3300) ELO Which is a Milestone in the History of Chess Computers! Mainly because of it's understanding of PAWNS! And how for the first time to Play In the Correct way like a GM & WC using it's PAWNS! Algorithms which can be seen in the Source Code (Note!) and it's Playing Style (Note!)
I Cannot Stress enough how important Correct PAWNS! Play is! Just as the Famous Chess Player François-André Danican Philidor Quoted “PAWNS! Are The Soul of Chess”

Billions of calculations in minutes is not much to crow about I'm afraid, computers have been measured in tera FLOPS (trillions per second) for decades. Bit like Dr evil thinking $1m is a staggering number to ask for in ransoming a government
