    FIDE Arbiters Seminar

    2014 Chess Victoria FIDE Arbiters Seminar

    Chess Victoria has applied for FIDE approval to organise a FIDE Arbiters Seminar.
    Details are as follows:

    Dates: Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May 2014

    Time: 8:00am – 6:00pm

    Venue: University of Third Age (U3A) Knox, 1A, Park Boulevard, Ferntree Gully.

    Conducted by: IA N Y Wong and IA Peter Tsai

    Cost: $70 (Optional: additional $30 for FIDE Arbiter Examination)

    Seminar topics:
    a) Laws of Chess.
    b) Tournament Rules.
    c) System of Games, tie breaks.
    d) Regulations for the rating and the over‐the‐board titles.
    e) Swiss system and pairing rules.
    f) Regulations for the titles of the Arbiters.
    g) Use of the electronic clocks.
    h) Examination (optional)

    Please e-mail your registration to N Y Wong at nywong@iprimus.com.au with name, contact number and e-mail address.

    The registration is only confirmed upon payment.

    The FIDE Arbiter Examination is required only if you want to get a norm for the title of FIDE Arbiter. To get the title of FIDE Arbiter, 4 norms are required, one of which must be the successful attendance of a FIDE Arbiter Seminar and passing the FIDE Arbiter Examination.

    Players (and parents) are welcome to attend to familiarise themselves with the topics mentioned above.

    The FIDE Arbiters Seminar in Melbourne has been approved by the FIDE Arbiters Commission.

    Chess Victoria has received 4 confirmations and 8 other registrations of interest.

    Please note that due to the size of the venue, there are only 15 places available.

    At some stage I had expressed an interest in doing the seminar.
    However, I note that the venue is too far (30kms plus) from my place.
    The seminar starts too early (8:00 AM) and finishes too late (6:00 PM)
    I can't make it!
    Good luck to all participants! I am sure it will be a great experience and you will learn a lot!

    My apology. I did not realise you have expressed your interest.

    The main reason why I decided to ask Chess Victoria to hold a FIDE Arbiters Seminar was there were 5 people who expressed their interest to me personally and they all live around the South-Eastern suburbs. Hence, I thought it made more sense to hold it somewhere in the city of Knox. If there are more interests shown for one to be held in the city, I will try to hold another one this year.

    So far, 8 confirmed participants (with 5 already paid) and another 5 registrations of interest. Please note that we can take only 15 participants at this stage.

    Actually let me apologise to you! The one seminar I had expressed an interest to participate was the Trainers one and not the Arbiters!

    Unfortunately the Trainers Seminar was cancelled!
