Anton looks like a future grandmaster.
For private coaching (IM, four times VIC champion) call or SMS 0417519733
Computer tells you what to play. Good coach explains why.

Since then there have been more norms from Anton - most recently at the 2014 Tromso Olympiad. He will be a GM before he is 20.

Actually, most recently at the George Trundle Masters; the norm was 6.5/9, which he achieved to tie for first.

Well done again, Anton. I hadn't picked up on that further norm.

Yeah. 6.5/9 is surprisingly low for an IM norm in the field. GM Darryl, Gary and a few others (mainly Kiwi) but not heaps of GM's.

Pretty good tournament for scoring IM norms for player as strong as Anton - but other than him (and he is technically an IM already) there were no other FMs (well, possibly Zelesco but he is not very consistent) capable of doing so. Smith And Steadman are both over 40 (Smith is almost 60 I think). New Zealand chess needs ''new blood''

Steadman is 52, Smith is 58. All the best players in NZ are over 40, except Wang Puchen of course who is in a class of his own.

Yes, but none of the current young players can match the dozen or so over-40s.
