From this day (13-11-20) onwards, I will only be posting, shouting and reading none other than chess related posts.
Fully vaccinated since October, 21, 2021
Due to a recent MCC Committee decision, registration of entries and payment of entry fees will now be via Tornelo, for all MCC classical time tournaments until further notice.
This will apply to all MCC Monday night tournaments and MCC Weekenders using a classical time control.
Formerly, this function was done through the MCC website. However, this has now changed following the successful use of Tornelo for this function in both the MCC Allegros and for the Greg Hjorth Online Classic.
Please note that Tornelo will not be used for pairing or rating purposes. Where the tournament is FIDE and ACF rated, the arbiter will use a compliant pairing program (i.e. Vega) instead.

Change in Victorian Mask Policy
Please note that due to a change in Victoria's mask policy, until further notice, masks are now mandatory at MCC.
As MCC is an indoor public place, masks must be worn, apart from when eating or drinking.

MCC Committee
4 Feb 2021
Following the MCC AGM held last Sunday, we are pleased to announce the new MCC Committee:
- President - Alexei Khamatgaleev
- Vice President - William Kersey
- Treasurer - Tony Tosevski
- Secretary - Hans Gao
- Registrar - Thai Ly
- Committee Members - Simon Dale (Immediate Past President), Chris Kolak, Zari De Rooy, Benjamin Akok, Ray Yang
Many thanks to Elizabeth Warren for her contribution to the Committee over the past years and the outgoing President Simon Dale.
After some time, MCC is pleased to announce that it has refreshed the look to its website - https://www.melbournechessclub.org.
We hope the new format is clearer and easier to navigate than was previously the case.
A big well done to MCC on a very sleek, professional new website for the 2020's
Personally I found the old website fine to navigate, but that said the new one is a class above.
To the brains and hard work behind the scenes, a big thankyou from the members past present and future!/new ones
Some pages are missing in the new website, though![]()

The club will reopen for over-the-board chess with our first event being our Allegro on Saturday 6th November.
MCC will be following all current government directives. These currently include the following:
-entry to MCC is only allowed for fully vaccinated people
-we will take steps (within reason) to confirm the vaccination status of all people attending MCC.
-people with a medical exemption for vaccination will need to show valid proof
-people under 16 do not need to be vaccinated to attend the club, consistent with government directives.
-we will have capacity limits based on MCC's size in sqm (the limit of OTB Allegro 06/11 is 50 players).
-masks must be worn indoors
See this link for details about our Saturday Allegros: https://www.melbournechessclub.org/e...turday-allegro
We have decided to first re-open the club for Allegro only. We will communicate more details about the reopening of other regular over-the-board MCC sessions (Monday night tournaments, Tuesday blitz, Wednesday social night, and Saturday Morning Junior Coaching, other tournaments) when our plans for these are finalised.
Please note that Melbourne Chess Club (MCC) has decided to cancel the 2021 MCC Xmas Fast Play, which in its 2021 calendar was to occur on Saturday and Sunday 4-5 December.
MCC instead be running its normal Saturday Allegro on Saturday 4 December.
