MCC stalwart Roger Beattie gave very positive feedback to the MCC Open players before the start of play this Monday night.

He emphasised that Julia was able to tailor her teachings to each attendee (to reflect each person's strength) and that her experience in the Russian school of chess brought a new perspective to the lesson.

We encourage everyone to follow Roger's advice and come along to experience Julia's teachings for themselves!

Please note that from the first Thursday in November (2 Nov 2017) onward, the Thursday Night lessons will continue subject to a minimum of 6 attendees paid in advance at a cost of $25 per month.

This is to ensure stability in the number of attendees so that Julia can properly plan her lessons.

Casual attendees are still welcome (provided the quota of 6 regular attendees is reached).

The website does not appear to state anywhere how much it is that one needs to pay for the membership...

The website does contain the details but the relevant webpage was not referenced in my post.

I've edited the post to address this issue.

Installation of new carpet at MCC - Tues 6 March to Fri 9 March

    Dear MCC members and visitors

Please note that during the period Tuesday 6 March to Friday 9 March 2018, new carpet is being laid to replace the existing carpet.

During this period, furniture in the affected areas will be relocated to non-carpeted areas of the MCC premises.

MCC still intends to hold its usual weekly activities next week (including Tuesday Night Blitz and the Wednesday Night Novice Night and Thursday Competitive Lessons), but these will be held in the non-carpeted computer area.

    We apologise for any inconvenience.

Today MCC received an historically significant book donation to the chess club, 5 volumes of the Waverley Novels by Sir Walter Scott and one volume is Lockhart's Life of Scott that were awarded as 1st prize in Melbourne Chess Club inaugural year in 1866 and signed by the first chess club president Sir George Stephen over 150 years ago.
