Should be a great event as in past years. I recall George Trundle well. Very likeable man. RIP.

Pairings for the Masters are now available at http://www.newzealandchess.co.nz/calendar.html.
There has been a withdrawal from the Qualifiers; pairings will be published when a replacement is confirmed...

Update...the draw for the Masters is available. Players are as listed in Keong's post. Seems there was some confusion, rather than an actual withdrawal...
Still no replacement for the withdrawal from the Qualifiers though.

I was extremely lucky - Bruce defended so well.

From moves 20-40 I was down to almost increment. Then he misjudged the rook ending. I was lost many times up until that point.

You're also lucky that your draw offer was rejected.
Draw offers cannot be withdrawn. The draw offer stands even if you alter your scoresheet by scratching out the (=)!!

Almost unheard of for Solo to misplay a vastly superior endgame and lose. It was rather like an Exchange Spanish but reflected vertically, so White has an extra P on the Q-side while Black's 4-3 on the K-side is doubled. Earlier on in the endgame, I would have backed Solo to beat even a good GM from this.

46 Re1 could be replied by 46...Bb4 and the resulting rook endgame is not very clear...

You have Rd1 in the variation at 46 but it is Re1.

    Hi Keong,
Am I right in thinking that the IM norm is now 7 points for all except Gino?

Thanks KB. My fault that typo, but still a pain that none of the game would play through even though everything else was fine.
