What QLD chess has over NSW Chess:

    A tournament almost every weekend!

If someone can find me a job in brisbane i'll play every single one next year! lol.
    GO THE DRAGONS!
    GO Western Sydney Wanderers!

Two hot dogs for five dollars. Every single year. You advertise that deal more than you do the chess tournament itself. Next year it will be a hot dog eating competition instead.

Jokes aside I strongly encourage all to come to this tournament. The venue is great and every year the competition is strong, and the prize money is very worthwhile.

By the way, this tournament is replacing what has been the Wendy Terry Memorial for the last five years, now bearing Leo Wilkinson's name who passed away earlier this year from cancer.

I hope to see at least 50 players entering this tournament as it most certainly deserves it.

Congrats to Brodie on another picket fence!

It was a good tournament to remember Leo.

Suggest to start day 2 at 9am as the buses stop running early.

    Cheers Garrett

    Thanks, Patrick.

Congratulations to Brodie for another picket fence, and to Tony for his outright second. Also, a very strong performance from Kevin Song (1256) to get to 4/6.

Congratulations Brodie on yet another perfect score - not even a grandmaster can score more than 6 out of 6! I loved your win over Tom Slater-Jones in particular. Send it to Michael D'Arcy for the next CAQ Newsletter!!!! Tony Weller, with 5 wins, showed there is plenty of life left in the "old dog" yet! A Redcliffe Chess Club quinella in the 1st Leo Wilkinson Memorial would have surely made Leo smile in heaven! Tom Maguire, at just 14 years of age, continues to impress, drawing with Gene Nakauchi on the way to 4.5 points out of 6, finishing equal third with Gene and the most consistent George Lester! Well done Tom, Gene and George!

A big thank you to the Le, Young, Slater-Jones and Menham families for running our favourite 2 sausage sizzles for $5 barbie all weekend!

Thanks a million to Patrick Byrom, our DOP, for a professional yet friendly weekend of arbiting! And finally, a big thank you to Leo's brother Owen, who dropped in on Sunday with a cash prize for the best score by a Redcliffe player who did NOT win a cash prize in the tournament- this was won by yours truly with 4 points! I should also thank Tyson Walker for being so kind to me in our last round encounter! It will go into my collection of masterpieces under the title : How Did You Win That Game Mark - You were dead lost ?????? I am sure this game, Tyson Walker- Mark Stokes, R6 is being replayed by Leo in heaven right now! Tyson, I might send this classic to Michael D'Arcy for inclusion in the next CAQ Newsletter!

Start getting your 8 board teams OR 4 board teams organized for our Qld Teams Chess Day on Sunday December 15!

Good luck to all our top Qld players in the 2013 Qld Chess Championship beginning on October 3! If you still have not entered, do so now- entries close on September 30 I believe! Please also remember the CAQ AGM on Saturday December 14, the day before our Teams Day! Written nominations for positions close on November 15!

Some of your swindles are absolutely legendary, Mark. I swear that you manage to win lost positions and lose won positions more than you lose lost positions and win won positions! And I thought you knew that I was going to write the book - "Mark Stokes - Patzer or Prodigy?"
