    FIDE Rated

Yes, the tournament will be FIDE rated through the French Chess Federation, the FFE. The Chief Arbiter is Wilhem Damour, who is doing an excellent job. It is planned that the tournament will be held again in August 2015.

seems like big prize money for little New Caledonia, and a lot of French persons certainly made the trip from far away. No Oz norm chasers here

Most of the French persons live there AC, on account of it being part of France...

No possibility of norms since there was no suitably qualified arbiter in charge.

Whoever does not attempt to attend next year's comp certainly would be. Great place with coral reef and great prize money, and just across the broadwater from Qld. That FIDE rating requirement is a hassle though.

I guess my main point is that New Caledonia is closer to Australia than New Zealand, a tribe of Aussies goes to Queenstown yet almost no one to New Caledonia, in spite of the good prize money. Is norm-chasing the main difference?
