hi zwisch, thanks for the game.

the 9...Ba6 was a move that i didnt expect and i think it might be a decent try (although ill have to check my database for clarification) but i thought you might have played 16...Qa5/Qc4 when i would play 17.Nb5.

Ba6 is a rather standard idea in the winawer. I thought for white that 23.a6 would have been better as it makes black unable to defend the b-pawn with the a-pawn. 29...Qb2 might have been a bit better for me.

IMO the rook sac was certainly interesting as a Winawer player myself, but maybe better was just ...Qc4 though. I think with the pawn on h5, white is always breaking through with weaknesses on h5 and f7. The h-pawn loss in not a big deal in itself but more the idea that white can advance his own h-pawn and crack open the kingside.

It got interesting after you snapped the e5 pawn off nicely. playing ...e5 was certainly thematic but I think under the circumstances it is to the benefit of the rooks, maybe better to leave this one until the endgame. Instead maybe swing the c6-N around to f5 looks pretty solid.

Well played, it was an interesting game to watch.

does 11.Bd3 instead of 11.Bxa6 get played all that much ?

i also like the idea of this move.

The Black Ng6 was badly placed. It's going no-where, and makes it hard to defend the Ph5.

14... cxd4 is a move that's reserved for Black to play. I.e., with a modicum of care, White should not be able to play dxc5 with advantage. So this should have been delayed. When played, it allowed the White N to become active, prompting Black to sac the exchange for insufficient compensation.

    35. or 36. Qxh4 is also worth consideration.
