Very strong tournament, despite modest prizes. Well done, Melbourne chess club.
Outstanding performance by Luke, he played 6 out of 8 top seeds (excluding himself and Ari Dale). I feel privileged to achieve a draw.
Another two excellent performers are Bill Jordan and Jack Puccini.

If only Luke had more foreigners he would achieve an IM norm - average rating of his opponents after an uplift is 2233, while the minimum 2230 rating is required for 7/9 result.

You should of played Vlad. That would of been one foreigner

A bit unlucky for Jack to collapse at the end like that, but still a great performance overall. Congrats to Luke Li as well, a well earned win in such a strong field. Also a shoutout to MCC for hosting such a tournament - I wish I could have played

Well done to all involved, especially my old chess coach Bill Jordan who had a solid tournament.

Huge congratulations to Luke Li on a great victory! As a Kiwi I am always pleased when NZ bred players do well.
NZ bred horses many not have made it to the latest Melbourne Cup field but our chessplayers do much better. A pity the NZ bred Australian Open champion was not playing this time.

Congratulations all the organizers on running a great tournament and to the players on some fascinating games.

I was multithreading all weekend. Looking at the on-line games and doing all sorts of other things such as planting vegetables, doing laundry, exercise and various other boring but necessary tasks.

December-January are going to be very interesting in Melbourne with big tournaments at first MCC then Box Hill, then The Australian Champs at Noble Park and last but not least the Australian Junior at Knox.

    Hi Simon

I have sent you an email with my address.

Thanks very much to you, Kerry and the other organisers/helpers for running a great tournament.

Congrats to Luke for a good win, and other good performers like Paul Cavezza, Bill Jordan, and Jack Puccini.

    Best wishes
    Garrett.

Thanks to Simon, Kerry, Pano, Grant, Tony De Fazio (for manning the BBQ!), Phillip Drew, all of the interstate players who made the effort to come to Melbourne, and everyone I've forgotten for their help with this event.

You can download a pgn of the top 10 boards HERE (under the title "2013MCCCupWE.pgn"). It's under the menu tab Events -> Historical Tournament Games.

I'll put the games on our website at some point today.

    Great tournament - thanks

Many thanks to Simon Dale and family for organising billets for interstate players.I'd encourage more people did this and we would grow as a chess community. I'll keep encouraging more Adelaide players to make the trip over for some tough games with an interesting and diverse bunch of people.

Many thanks also to Kerry and the other organisers.
