31 entries now including 2 CM entries

Actually what I am really pleased with is that we are getting significant entries from lower rated players. There are now 8 entries unrated or below 1500.

We are fast approaching our first prize money band of $1200 for for 30 paying players. Please note that GMs, IMs and club member FMs play free so they don't count on this figure.

The more people that enter the better the prize money. Every paying person that enters makes a difference to the prize money.

The best thing you can do to maximize tournament prize money is enter early and encourage your friends to do the same.

I am currently working with Phillip Drew to get 5 DGT boards for the Cup Weekender competition. We have a number of hurdles to get over, but if we can do it, then it means that the top quarter or so of players will be live on the Internet. This will be a great opportunity for MCC to test the level of interest for DGT boards.

We are getting some interest from interstate players for the Cup Weekender who are asking about billeting. If you would like to experience the joy of billeting an interstate chess player from the wider chess community then please email me, scd@thecrag.com and let me know. What comes around goes around- if we open our houses to interstate players they will open up theirs when we need an affordable solution to playing interstate.

I think the interstate players who are currently registered for the competition all have places to stay. There are a couple of others who have expressed interest, and if they come I would like to be able to offer them a billeting option. I am pretty sure we will end up have between 1 and 3 players stay with us.

Actually, even if you cannot offer billeting for the Cup Weekender but would be prepared to in other situations then let me know. I think I am going to start a register.

Good news, Phillip has managed to get through most of the technical issues with the DGT boards. From the organisers point of view I would like to get the numbers up a little more to justify the cost of having the DGT boards.

As soon as you have worked out that you can do this competition then please let me know:

Hey guys, I have figured out the problems with the Serial R232 DGT Boards, and will be able to broadcast 6 (4 R232, 2 USB) games using DGT for the MCC Cup Weekender. If MCC wants I can also use the broken DGT Boards to give the tournament a more professional look, with all top 10 boards being DGT.
