It was really quite intriguing much play and resources black managed to get, and whats more I'm not sure if there are all that many improvements for white or atleast I don't think I would have faired all that much better

I was actually quite happy with my defence prior to the lapse. I was probably concerned with e3/e1 a little bit too much and stopped concentrating once the queen moved to h6 thinking that my chances to swap off pieces had improved. Maybe b4 was a better move than the Bc4 clanger.

Its a surprisingly difficult position to defend really. maybe instead of 25.Qd3?! you could consider 25.h4!? but even then I'm not sure if there is a lot of difference. but instead of Bc4 b4 is definitely a consideration. I actually think ...Qh6 was a !

I thought you would just castle on move 14, taking the B seemed to give black the initiative. Once you played f3 I think black would be pretty happy that he could keep you under pressure and make it hard to develop.

Yes - castling would have been better than the poor knot Tappy got left with.

i didnt even consider 0-0-0 as i thought it would leave the king in an exposed position.

i guess this was the start of the suffocation.

I did think white should have gotten in 0-0-0 sometime early in the game. It does seem like its open and might lead to being attacked, however in reality its actually a lot harder for black to organise a counterattack against the white king if it's on the queenside. After that it would be much easier for white to get developed and white would probably have a much easier time converting
