Very strong field. Max lost to Humpy Koneru, former world top woman player and still one of the top few, and the many other GM's include Nigel Short.

Australia's leading grandmaster Zong-Yuan Zhao has taken the sole lead in the 202 player event with 24 grandmasters with 7/8. He defeated former world title challenger and top seed and last year's winner Nigel Short in round 8 with the black pieces. There is one round left to play.

ZYZ has scored 100 % against only one Pinoy rated 2356.

Zhao is performing about 2750 so far

Zhao born in Beijing has white in the final round against IM Wan Yunguo 2494 of China

Yuan plays IM Wan Yunguo (2494, born 1990) from China in the final round. He's leading by half a point from his opponent, Gustaffson, Hansen and Schebler. Yuan's opponent needs a draw for a GM norm by my quick calculations.

I have a mate here whose brain is cooked by drugs but can still go through dozens of Zhao's brilliancies out of his head

Zhao plays the young IM Yunguo Wan (CHN 2494) in the final one round on Sunday night. ' One night in Bangkok from Chess the Musical' will hopefully see Zhao as the winner of the prestigious Bangkok Open' .

Four move draws on boards one and two? Understandable on board 1 with guaranteed first place and a GM norm at stake, but I would have expected a fight for first place on board two. Good for Zhao, obviously as Schebler will be hard pressed to win with black vs Levente.
