I don't know if it has been posted yet,but Malcolm Treddinick has passed away.He died of a brain haemorrhage while working on his computer. The family has contacted me,(via Margaret Cheale) in the hope that I would be able to let other chess-players know.
The funeral will be held at Macquarie Park (part of the Nth.Ryde cemetery),in Sydney on Thursday 4th April at 2.30 pm.(refreshments will follow.)
Malcolm was well known to many Melboune, and later Sydney chess-players.He will be sadly missed.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Malcolm Tredinnick (born 1970).

He was President of the NSW Chess Association in 1997 and had many friends in the chess community Australia wide.

I am very saddened by this news. Back in the early 1990's I shared a room with him at one of the Australian Open's. He was a witty, well-educated person - always a pleasure to chat to. As an arbiter, he tried to look serious and strict but at times found it difficult due to his softness. Within the Australian chess community, he was liked by everyone.
    RIP

Sad to hear it. Much too young. I first met Malcolm in the late 80s but I am not sure if it was through chess or mathematics or both.

Here is a picture of Malcolm playing Spassky around that time: http://www.flickr.com/photos/malcolm...n/photostream/

    So young...

He was a promising young player reaching about 2000 and I recall him drawing with Daryl Johansen in a solid game. He was a fine student and the last time I saw him he was studying medicine (I think).
