Junta Ikeda is Australia's official representative and Karthik Gurunathan is representing us in a junior age group.

Over 440 players, mostly Indian. Ikeda defeated a 1600s rated player in round 1 and Gurunathan (who is rated 1671) lost to an IM.

Junta's win against the GM according to the Monroi, but the final position is drawn so I am not quite sure what the story is there.

Another good result for Junta, drawing with IM Sharma Himanshu (2417) with black in round 8. He plays a 2400-rated IM in round 9. No 9 game norm chances even if he wins since average opponent rating so far is too low. However a good result this round may give him chances in future rounds (event is 11 rounds.)

Egyptian GM Ahmed Adly forfeited on top board to Indian IM Karthikeyan citing illness.
