Oceania at the Istanbul Olympiad 2012

A colourful opening ceremony was held here in Istanbul tonight.

    Oceania Teams include:

    Australia
    New Zealand
    PNG (Open only)
    Fiji
    Palau (Open only)

I am here in Istanbul as the Zone President and Guam Delegate (Guam want to send a team in 2014).

We already have a thread with the same name in the NZ area/forum (ca. Sept 2011), so wondering if either this name or the other one can be modified?

I am taking that to be the NZ-specific Olympiad thread and there is also a general Olympiad thread at http://chesschat.org/showthread.php?t=13940

I don't think this one is necessary and am leaning towards locking it but if Brian intends it as an Oceania nations other than Aus/NZ thread then I may keep it open retitled, eg there has been a PNG at the Olympiad thread in the past.

Yes, this thread is meant to cover all of Oceania, but particularly countries other than Australia and New Zealand.

Today the Fiji Open team won 2.5-1.5 (a win for Sam Goundar!) but PNG and Palau were less successful (as was the Fiji Women's team).

This morning Jamie Kenmure and I attended the IO Seminar presented by Ignatius Leong.

Although I already have the IO title I wanted to learn how to present the course to potential event organisers in the region.

Thread renamed and will stay open. Hopefully that will avoid confusion.

Hi Brian, just correcting this, Fiji won 3-1 (Calvin Prasad on Board 1 also managed a convert his strong d-pawn finish), this is the earliest match points attained by Fiji at any olympiad in my understanding.

Yes Jashint, the Fiji Open team won 3-1 yesterday (my mistake!).

But both Fiji teams lost 0-4 today!

Still there is a long way to go!
