    Hi Pablito

Because Garry Lycett floated up to play Alex Kaplan in the previous round, he can't float in the next round,

West-Dale is a great match up. I love seeing up and coming players testing it with proven strong players
I've never been so broke that I couldn't leave town

I'm trying out a new blog site...

All the fun of the Swiss Pairing rules are on the FIDE website.

The relevant section about pairings & floats is as follows:

    Code:
    B.5

No player shall receive an identical float in two consecutive rounds

    B.6

No player shall have an identical float as two rounds before
Which is there to prevent a player floating out of their score group in consecutive rounds (and thereby getting a 'harder' or 'easier' pairing), while the two rounds before part is about getting a float with likely the same colour, so you don't get to float & get black (for example) in rounds 4 & 6 of a tournament.

Apologies to the players (in advance) for the state of the kitchen - it looks like a building site!

We have been painting the walls over the past few days and are installing new specially made cupboards on Wednesday (as well as doing some more painting).

It is going to look really nice, but that will be by Round 4. For Round 3, it will be a bit of a mess.

Please understand that this is for the long term greater good of the MCC and I apologize for any inconvenience.

I am hoping that by Round 4, the kitchen will be seen as a comfortable place to congragate.

West - Dale is live at 7.15pm here

(For techies- I'm using Guy's site because google-sites don't have FTP upload. Tried using a free server (000webhost) and redirecting to our site but it corrupted the FTP file. Any advice appreciated but I'm sure I'll get it worked out when I have some spare time over the next couple of weeks)

Results, and what will go down as a template for how not to play the Lopez exchange (my attempt as black), are up on the website.

I'll post a few more games on Thursday when I'm back at the club.
