In 1980, West-Jamieson was on board 3 in round 7. This section in "Australian Chess: Into the Eighties" begins with Guy's famous full-page reflective sunglasses pic (not necessarily taken in round 7). Anyway, Darryl has shorter hair in this book, so it looks like it's round 8 of the 1978 Australian Championship, won by Jammo in a playoff over Shaw and Fuller. Rogers-Johansen went 1. c4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Nf3 g6 4. d4 f6 & 1-0 in 25, and West-Jamieson was a slightly longer perpetual check after opposite-side pawn storms.

I think board 1 must have been Shaw-J. Purdy (draw in 74), since Jammo was on 5.5/7, and Purdy seems like the only player who could have been ranked ahead of him. Purdy was on a 4.5/5 run, including a win in round 6 (after Jamieson hung a bishop with check in an apparently unlosable position) and a draw with Fuller in round 7. However, I'm not sure what happened in Purdy's first two games, since not all the games are in Ozbase.

Anyway, Jammo wrote a book on the tournament if anyone wants more details

The pictures were taken at the 1982-3 Australian Championship held at Myers in Melbourne. Not sure which round.

If the games were from the 1981-82 Myers Australian Championship, the Jammo game was from round 9 and the Rogers game from round 8. It seems likely as the colours and table numbers match.

That may be but there was no Australian Championship held in 1982-83. The Myers Australian Championship was held in 1981-82. The 1983 event was an open of which there may be no (or insufficient) records as there is nothing about it on Ozbase.

George: I rarely use soap in these days of gels but I'll gladly wash it out with whisky.

Close Max, but the second from the right does not look like Phil Viner unless he was diguised in drag.

Please note Max was positing Phil Viner was the rightmost; not second from the right. But I'm guessing Michael Woodhams would not be flattered by the guess either.
