What a pity one of the tournamant dates is my wife's birthday! But I do hope to make it back to the OCC again one day. I played there for at least 12 years.

Dr Dowden might have some competition this time

I'm a tourist these days (but hoping to win the Past-President prize). Besides, I'm not eligible for the South Island title any more. A pity, as I'd have enjoyed challenging Flukey as the warm favourite.

I'm starting to think Flukey's main competition for the title will be Thorben Koop (provided Craig determines his eligibility) - he just won the North Shore Open 5/5!

Eligibility is in the NZCF Handbook somewhere, but last time I checked, it was resident for 6 months in the appropriate Island.

    NI / SI Titles

1.1.5 Eligibility for North and South Island Titles
New Zealand players are eligible to hold either the North Island Championship
or the South Island Championship, but not both in the same year. Eligibility is
determined by the location of the club through which the player is registered
for that year, or if this does not apply (Gambit CC or NZCCA members, or
players who have not declared membership of a club) by the player’s address
    at the time of registration.

If I interpret this correctly then only New Zealanders are eligible for the titles. Does that mean that those who have permanent residency but are not NZ passport holders are ineligible?

    hello

Is there any word on when the south island rapid championship will be on? I cant find any entry form on website for it.

according to the NZCF tournament rules, the south island rapid championship is a offical NZCF event and therefore shall be hosted each year.

and also I found this in tournament rules also :

    3.6.1 Date and Venue
The South Island Rapid Championship shall be held immediately following and at the same venue as the South Island Championship.

    thanks

The Otago chess club has not organised a Rapid Championshiup to make room for a 5-day 9 round championship. It is up for grabs for any willing organiser

What a strangely drafted rule! But you would think permanent residents should be ok ...

The silliest thing is that a player can simply choose whether he is a North Islander or South Islander by joining a club in the other island. And a non-registered player from Auckland who turns up to the South Island Champs and registers there will be a South Islander because his address is the motel down the road. Maybe they mean permanent address ...
