Hi all, 51 players in total from the three groups in the 8th B.O.P. Rapid.
Largest total number that its ever had - in NZ's first and longest running Fischer time control Rapid.
First few placings in the B.O.P. Rapid were as follows:
5/6 pts, 1st= Ben Hague FM, Bob Smith FM
    4.5/6 pts, 3rd Peter Hulshof
4/6 pts, 4th-6th= Noel Pinic, Hilton Bennett, Michael Freeman.
no doubt full details will appear from NZCF later.

Additionally, for those passing this way there is now a Tauranga RSA Chess club in addition to the Mt.Maunganui RSA Chess club. Tauranga Chess club began officially in mid-December, tidying up local loose ends, and we've had 17 players on the most recent night, 16 players the previous club night and a slow growing large base of new-to-chess players. A lot of hard work plus scratching around for equipment, hence could be a while before we register as an associate NZCF club simply because we've got to put every dollar and donations we can find into never having new people turning up with no equipment for them to play. Slow and steady hard work and benefits for all. The Tauranga RSA program is a very casual one purposely designed to compliment the intensive Mt.Maunganui RSA program, differing in location, day of week and structure and a very relaxed approach. Very basic club details on the link below if needed.

Well done guys. Also good to see one of my contemporaries from my days as an Otago Junior in the mid 1970s - correspondence master Michael Freeman (SIM to be exact) - playing over-the-board chess.
