    BHCC's 2nd Transfer Tournament

    Where: Box Hill Chess Club
    When: October 8, Saturday 2.30pm to 5.30pm
Entry fee: $10 per player for members of BHCC or CJCC. $15 for non-members.
Prizes: 100% of entry fees collected will go towards the prize fund.

Please take the time to read through the rules if you are planning on participating.
    --------
    Rules:

    1. We WILL be playing with promotions. That means that when a pawn reaches the last rank, it can promote into a piece, just like normal chess. When you capture a promoted piece, you pass it to your partner as a pawn. If too many participants do not approve of this rule, it will be scratched.
    2. Time control will be 3 minutes or 5 minutes depending on participant preference
    3. Table talk WILL be allowed (you can say anything to your partner- piece requests, suggest moves, etc, but you cannot move your partners piece). I put this rule in because it is in the true spirit of transfer- teamwork! Transfer is a team game, which means team solving of critical positions. After all, four eyes see better than two. If too many participants do not approve of this rule, we’ll just scratch the move suggestions. Piece requests still allowed.
    4. Now this is not an ‘official’ rule, but I figured that it would help the games flow more smoothly. You must make your pieces in hand visible at ALL times. So just leave them on the table, don’t fiddle around with them.
    5. There is no touchmove. Your move is complete after you press the clock. You may make a move, let go of the piece, take it back, make another move, and do it as many times as you like so long as it is done during your time.
    --------
    Some general tips:

    1. Communicate! Tell your partner what’s good for you and what hurts you. When to sit, when to go. If you see something on his board, warn him about it.
    2. Control the centre! If you control the centre, you control the game. Simple as that!
    3. Don’t sac too much! Alright, this might get a cheap mating attack going against a beginner, but against someone who has some experience you will most likely have to sit, which wastes time, and end up giving too many pieces to keep the attack going, which may get your partner mated.
    4. Play fast! Time is probably the most vital part of the game. Get up time, and turn your time advantage into a winning position.
    5. This is probably the most important tip: Do not argue with your partner! If he screws up a totally winning game, as much as you’d like to pick up the board and clobber him (hopefully not too hard), try to get over it. Arguing with your partner reduces team spirit, and will likely influence how you guys cooperate in your remaining games. As one wise transfer player once said: ‘A good bughouse player is a player than can forgive his partner when he makes mistakes.’

    Entries:
    Allen Yu and Michael Chan
Bobby Cheng and Laurence Matheson (maybe)

If you’d like to enter a team, post it on this thread or message me. The more teams listed, the more incentive for others to play!

    one more thing...

Oh i forgot to add...if you don't have a partner, just come along on the day. There will be plenty of people who are in the same situation as you.

Hot shots at chess, but hot shots at transfer?

Less than a week until the tournament begins!

Laurence has pulled out which means Bobby is unpartnered...this could be the chance for some 2000+ rated player to replace Laurence

    results from today

Only 4 teams competed today, but despite this it was a really fun day. It was a triple round robin where each team played 4 games against the opponent every match, to ensure everyone played against everyone. Time control was 3 0 and bumped down to 2 0 in the last round.

    Final standings (out of 36):
1st- Allen Yu and Michael Chan 27
2nd- Bobby Cheng and Cedric Antolis 22.5
3rd- Alec Yu and Daniel Tan 21.5
4th- Ari Dale and Finley Dale 1
