    Superfinal of 61st Russian women Chess Championship 2011


    Ten players will be taking part in the round robin, 9 rounds : the current champion of the country Alisa Galliamova (2492), former world champion Alexandra Kosteniuk (2497), the leading female players of the country Gunina Valentine (2487), Natalia Pogonina (2442), Anastasia Bodnaruk (2431), Helen Hare (2419) , Tatiana Shadrina (2373), Olga kettlebell (2371), Bair Kovanova (2354), Daria Charochkina (2310). The time control will be 90 minutes on the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes of the game with 30 seconds per move starting from the first, each member state. The prize fund is about $50,000 with the winner getting roughly $14,000.

    In the second day of Women’s Russian Superfinal, Daria Charochkina won the second game in a row and become a sole leader of the tournament. Her rival Anastasia Bodnaruk stopped clock only when the king was put natural mate. After the defeats in the first round Elena Zaiatz and Alisa Galliamova both win their games today against Shadrina Tatiana and Alexandra Kosteniuk respectively.

    All decisive in 3rd round of Women’s Russian Superfinal


    In the third round of Women’s Russian Superfinal all five games have been decisive. Daria Charochkina, who had been leading, lost to the current Russian Champion Alisa Galliamova. Valentina Gunina from Moscow and Baira Kovanova from Saratov, both won their games against Alexandra Kosteniuk and Anastasia Bodnaruk respectively and lead the championship with 2.5/3.

    Fight goes more serious in Women’s Russian Superfinal as of the 20 games played only four ended in draws. Clear leader has not yet been determined but Daria Charochkina, Bair Kovanova and Valentina Gunina lead with 3 points each. Baira Kovanova and Valentina Gunina has not yet been defeated. Both girls will meet each other in the 9th and final round of the event on 28th August.

    Gunina and Baira share lead at Women’s Russian Superfinal


    In the 5th round of Women’s Russian Superfinal Valentina Gunina played a typical variation of the Caro-Kann and beats Tatiana Shadrina with Black in only 21 moves. Baira Kovanova beats Elena Zaiatz in a sharp struggle while the third leader since the fourth round - Daria Charochkina - slow down a bit and played a draw with Alexandra Kosteniuk.

    Final report, Gunina wins Women’s Russian Superfinal


    Valentine Gunina has won the 61st Russian women super final. In the final round of the championship Gunina drew with Kovanova which was more than sufficient to claim the title. She scored 6.5 out of 9 games clearly one point ahead of the field. Alisa Galliamova with 5.5/9 claimed the silver medal by beating Zaiatz Elena in the final round, while Charochkina having the same score could get bronze due to lower tie breaks. She beat Pogonona in the final round.
