    From that link:

"The Australian guards could not even pretend to understand this attitude and saw most of the Japanese prisoners as surly and fanatical. Things were not helped when late in the war information reached Australia about the way the Japanese were treating Australian prisoners.

It was this mutual incomprehension between the two races which led to the 'night of a thousand suicides' when the Japanese in the Cowra prison camp attempted a mass breakout on 5 August 1944. As a result, 231 Japanese and four Australians were killed. The Australian guards thought the Japanese were attempting to take over the camp. Actually, they were attempting to kill themselves.

Yet there is no evidence to suggest that the Australian authorities treated the Japanese prisoners any differently to any other group. Unlike the Italians they were not permitted to leave the camps to work on the farms but otherwise they received the same rations and were subject to the same discipline. At no time was there any attempt to wreak revenge on the Japanese for their treatment of Australian prisoners. Unfortunately this attitude was misinterpreted by some of the Japanese as weakness and on several occasions they pushed matters as far as they could by refusing to work when ordered, refusing to turn up on parades and refusing to salute Australian officers. Had Australian prisoners acted in the same fashion in Japanese POW camps their punishment would have been severe."

I finally spoke to my uncle who is a little hard of hearing on the phone. He does not dispute the 231 figure but thought that a lot more committed suicide than reported. He had to help put the corpse in the mass graves, each had a name tag. He swears that there is definitely three mass graves and not one. He was in the guard of honour for the four dead Aussie soldiers. He complained that it was a freezing morning with the grass icy. He had to bury the corpse that were chewed up by the train, he said there were like mince meat. I know that he suffered trauma from this that affected him for many years afterwards - he hardly spoke when I was a child. He only described everything when was 85 years old. He complains that at the anniversaries no one he knows turns up only a few of their children. Gone but not forgotten.

Zionism is racism as defined by the UN, Israel by every dirty means available steals land and water, kill Palestinian freedom fighters and civilians, and operates an apartheid system to drive more Palestinians off their land

So there you go. Your impression from your uncle's war stories that there were two more secret mass graves was wrong. They were all buried together, albeit in three rather than one mass grave (presumably adjoining graves). No secrets.

Actually they are not adjoining. The public are only signposted the close one the other two are further away. He stated there were electrified fences.

"Established in 1964, this is the only Japanese War Cemetery to be retained in Australia. There are 523 graves at the Japanese War Cemetery, containing the remains of the 231 Japanese soldiers who were killed in the 1944 Cowra Breakout and all Japanese Nationals who died on Australian soil during World War II. "

He stated there were electrified fences.
“They wanted to take over the camp and get hold of the two machine guns that were guarding the camp. One group of men ran to the centre of the camp known as ‘Broadway’ to open up the camp and let other prisoners out. There were four compounds in the camp and only one compound was involved in the breakout. The plan was to open the gates while another group went to climb the fence to provide support from outside the camp. Others charged at the machine guns and that’s when the majority of casualties occurred. The group that climbed over the fence mostly survived as there was just one Australian there with a gun who couldn’t do much to stop hundreds of Japanese.”

Very true. The Holocaust Museum in Washington DC documents the USA's State Department's great shame in this area.
“The destructive capacity of the individual, however vicious, is small; of the state, however well-intentioned, almost limitless. Expand the state and that destructive capacity necessarily expands, too, pari passu.”—Paul Johnson, Modern Times, 1983.

I have read Oz history of this at the time but Muslim migrants were considered more acceptable for reasons of assimilation.
