I note that it's now the 70th anniversary of the Jap surrender. Notice how many days it was since the 70th anniversary the Hiroshima bomb.

My point was that the Japs were not so ready to surrender even after the bombs. But I do notice that—Truman was very pleased to hear the news, contrary to the ‘atomic diplomacy’ thesis. The Soviets didn't seem willing to enter the war until the bomb. Still, Hirohito mentioned only the bomb in his surrender announcement.

Under the terms of the Yalta Conference the Soviets were bound to enter the Pacific theatre two to three months after the European theatre concluded. Soviet Victory Day was 9 May and so Stalin pushed that to the limit but it seems the timing of the invasion of Manchuria was chosen to comply with the term of the Yalta agreement (and so benefiting by obtaining the territories of Southern Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, as agreed with FDR and Churchill at Yalta).
In short, I don't believe the A-bomb had all that much to do with the timing of the Soviet-Japanese War.

Comments that "we can't win with Menzies" began to circulate in the conservative press especially after it was leaked that a circular he sent to Defence Department regarding wounded soldiers from both the First and Second World War receiving a pension increase. In it he stated that "....a dead soldier cost a letter home and a plaque, Legacy provided for his family. A wounded soldier haunted governments for decades."

Zionism is racism as defined by the UN, Israel by every dirty means available steals land and water, kill Palestinian freedom fighters and civilians, and operates an apartheid system to drive more Palestinians off their land
Just look at our flag, Britain was at war then so were we. Aussie fighter pilots helped defend Britain in the Battle for Britain nothing really wrong with that except Churchill thought Australia expendable that could be rescued after European war resolved. There was residual resentment to Menzies because he evaded service in WW1 - that was the mentality except for the commos, republicans and libertarians.

That was indeed the problem - we had to struggle on behalf of the Commonwealth!~

Actually, this is a complex point, but he is basically correct, with a few twists. The Balfour Declaration of 1926 referred to the member entities (including Australia which was a party to it) as "freely associated as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations". It was then formalised by the Statute of Westminster in 1931, dating the concept "British Commonwealth" from that date at the latest so far as the parent nation was concerned. In 1949 the term "British Commonwealth" was replaced by "Commonwealth of Nations".
In Australia, for various generally silly reasons, the Statute was not legislated until 1942, despite Australia's prior agreement. However, on its adoption it was backdated to the start of WWII.

This link tells how during the Holocaust the Nazis put a bounty on Jews in Holland and they may have got some takers.
