This is a bit like the Australian High Court justice who remarked, in a case involving the question whether an Australian sailor could be tried by UK authorities for an offence carrying the death penalty in the UK, that the Court's decision could have grave consequences for the sailor.

I recently read an article that made me proud of Aussie diggers. During WW1 when the Allies wer being wiped out by Johnny Turk many Diggers deserted, Australia being the only country that did enforce the shoot-em-at-dawn dictum. When they were challenged by Poms as to why they were letting their mates down they replied: if their mates had any sense they would be wining, dining, womanising just as they were.
Reminded of that quip, what if they declared a war and nobody came? Was it John Lennon who was a peace campaigner?
