Congratulations to Mike Steadman on the IM norm.
Congratulations to Guy West on phenomenal result - essentially steam-rolling a very strong field.

Congrats to IM Guy West for a very outstanding performance,
and for Mike Steadman first IM norm with a super performance in the first half of the event (certainly looking like NZ's next IM).

Great results in the Qualifier by Bob Gibbons, Helen Milligan, and Alan Ansell to share first with top seed Tony Dowden. Also notable Hans Gao the lowest rated player in the field, who will be picking up a truckload of rating points for his fine performance well over his rating.

A superb result, Guy. Well done!

Also great to see Mike Steadman get his first IM norm. For some reason I thought he already had a norm or two from playing at the SIO or Doeberl but he must have just been on track to get one but didn't make it or something. Anyway, very pleased for you, Mike, and congratulations!

Congrats too to the four joint winners of the qualifiers.

Also, thanks again to Helen and Ewen and anyone else who was involved (maybe Mike since he was the organiser) in ensuring that the results and games were either emailed or uploaded shortly after the games were over. Great job and much appreciated...

    Thanks due

You should thank Ewen. He spent the hours creating the pgn files and emailing them out. Me, I spent 5 minutes after dinner each night putting them up on the web.

I did thank Ewen but maybe by 'you' you just mean that if people generally are expressing their gratitude, they should thank him in particular. Absolutely...

    Well done Guy and Mike!

Congratulations to Guy West for the superb result crashing through a very strong field with a fantastic score!

Well done to Mike Steadman ,which shows that you can improve your game not only when you are a teenager!

Good luck in the future tournaments.

Are we talking Ewen Green here? A man who has done much for NZ chess over many years. I first met him way back in my teens. I too offer my congrats for his efforts.

Congrats to all the winners and really pleased to see Mike Steadman get an IM norm. Guy should play more often outside Vic after that result. How about Aus Open 2011?

Does he get a GM norm then?

Thanks, and a big thank you to everyone else too, for all the kind words.

I had a nightmare flight on the way home, ultimately delayed by nearly 4 hours, so I didn't get to bed until 3am last night, which is 5am on my NZ clock. Coupled with the early morning round vs Solo, it was a very long day!

Good luck to all the players from the Masters, both Aussie and Kiwi, who are off to the Olympiad.

Can someone let Bobby know that I've got his NZ $150 for coming = 4rth and will pass it on when I see him.
