Does God Exist? NO. God is just another word for magic. Magic is not real therefore magical beings are impossible.

Another reason to throw out god fantasy: The god of the gaps has run out of hiding places. The fairy's magic wand never was and never will be necessary for anything.

Instead of worshipping the magic god fairy I worship Lichess.org

So anyway if God did create the universe and everything in in in 6 days, who is still creating the new bit coming about due to the expanding universe on an ongoing basis? Is He logging a little overtime each day to do it? Geez I hope he didn't sign up to a salary like a sucker, all that extra unpaid work.

Here is a final paradox. Recent work on early modern science has demonstrated a direct (and positive) relationship between the resurgence of the Hebraic, literal exegesis of the Bible in the Protestant Reformation, and the rise of the empirical method in modern science. I’m not referring to wooden literalism, but the sophisticated literal-historical hermeneutics that Martin Luther and others (including Newton) championed. It was, in part, when this method was transferred to science, when students of nature moved on from studying nature as symbols, allegories and metaphors to observing nature directly in an inductive and empirical way, that modern science was born. In this, Newton also played a pivotal role. As strange as it may sound, science will forever be in the debt of millenarians and biblical literalists.
Did they extend this method to observing God's existence in an inductive and empirical method?

    Does God exist?

    I don't know.

This might seem strange as I have going back over 20 years argued for the existence of a specific god in this community, but I have changed my view completely. I do not know whether a god exists. I do not think it is possible to know for certain that a god exists or does not exist.

To make an argument very similar to what I remember Kevin Bonham making, it is impossible for humans to judge whether any being that might seem to have god like abilities is really a god. It could just be a being which is somewhere between the limited abilities of humans and the complete set of abilities a god must possess.

On the other hand it is also impossible to rule out the existence of a god which has not done anything to reveal its presence to humans. This, practically, is the same as there actually being no god as there is no benefit from a god that does not interact with humans.

There are a lot of implications from my change of belief that I am only just starting to get my head around. One implication though is I have no reason not to play competitive chess and I am planning to return, in a small way, to playing chess.

Welcome back Scott, I hope you're well.

The above reminds me a little of Arthur C Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
I.e. Something that might seem miraculous to us, could well just be a demonstration of technology that we don't know about.

The difference between Technology and ''magic'' is that technology can be explained/proved. While magic is beyond explanation (at least for now).
