Swiss Perfect to Word or Excel so that crosstables appear in neat columns

Another layout issue I'm absolutely clueless about, I've tried all kinds of things but none of them work.

When the Copy View function is used in SP you can use CODE tags here to get it to appear in neat lines (give or take the odd error when a word is too long or something like that.)

However I just can't find a way to copy crosstables into Word so that they don't come out looking like this (or like this with some amount of spacing thrown in):

Even paste into Excel as Unicode Text, which often solves problems like this, doesn't work. And copying them from a correct display here doesn't work either. Any help appreciated.

Kev, [code]-to-WORD problems will magically disappear if you use (in WORD) one of the <momentarily forgotten the name of the group> fonts such as Courier.

    So ...
    1. Copy your [code] text to the computer's memory.
    2. Paste into WORD doc
    3. Select pasted text and change font to Courier.

    Carry on!

Monospaced is the word I was looking for. Monospaced fonts (as opposed to variable width) include monaco, courier and andale mono.

    Fonts which use non-proportional spacing!

No. Actually proportional spacing means the size of "B" and "." is very different, since the letters themselves occupy very different size. This means mono-spaced is the opposite of proportionally spaced, e.g. they have fixed size for any letter. I am sure Gunner Underpants is the expert in this area, and I am the novice, but I think Brian is wrong (unless I misunderstood his comment).

On my copy, which may not be the last available build, there is a Save View as Text option which creates a text file. Copying and pasting from that text file into Word appears to have the same issue - some fonts work, others don't.

A proportional typeface contains glyphs of varying widths, while a monospaced (non-proportional or fixed-width) typeface uses a single standard width for all glyphs in the font.

Sans serif, serif, whatever will be will be!

"Serif" means that the typeface/font has "Feet", ie "TIMES NEW ROMAN" (note the capital "I").

"Sans serif" means that the typeface/font is without "feet", eg ARIAL. (Note the difference in the capital "I", this one doesn't have feet).

This image is in a proportional font... and it doesn't work.
    ___ _____
    .'/,-Y" "~-.
    l.Y ^.
    /\ _\_
    i ___/" "\
    | /" "\ o !
    l ] o !__./
    \ _ _ \.___./ "~\
    X \/ \ ___./
    ( \ ___. _..--~~" ~`-.
    ` Z,-- / \
    \__. ( / ______)
    \ l /-----~~" / -Mmmmmm, Australian Chess Magazine...
    Y \ /
    | "x______.^
    | \
    j Y

The Courier font is non-proportional which allows people to post SwissPerfect results and also to design ASCII text art, (sometimes you need to use the "code" command to get it all to work).

    Code:
                  ___ _____
                .'/,-Y" "~-.
                l.Y ^.
                /\ _\_
               i ___/" "\
               | /" "\ o !
               l ] o !__./
                \ _ _ \.___./ "~\
                 X \/ \ ___./
                ( \ ___. _..--~~" ~`-.
                 ` Z,-- / \
                   \__. ( / ______)
                     \ l /-----~~" / -Mmmmmm, Australian Chess Magazine...
                      Y \ /
                      | "x______.^
                      | \

The other problem you have with the Homer picture is that vBulletin trims multiple spacing to a single space so that even with a fixed-width font homer would have issues outside of a code block.

Regarding the original Swiss Perfect to Word question the following might be some sort of an option as well...

When exporting the view from SP perform a text export and use a separator character of "|". Then open the text file, cut and paste into Word. Then elect the pasted block and choose Table -> Convert -> Text to table at the bottom of the dialogue box there is a spot to enter the separation character where you enter "|". Voila! You have a Word table which you can format to your hearts desire.
